About Bonner
The federal electorate of Bonner was named after former Senator Neville Bonner. Senator Bonner was the first Indigenous Australian elected to the Federal Parliament in 1971. During his 12 years in the Senate he was a hard-working and diligent parliamentarian, respected by both sides of politics. Bonner covers an area of approximately 360 sq km from the Port of Brisbane in the North to Lota in the southeast and to Rochedale and Mount Gravatt in the West.
“I’m fighting for what Bonner needs”
Fast, reliable broadband – now
The Government’s NBN will be at least another 8 years away for residents in Bonner and it will come at a very high price. I’m working with telecommunications providers to outline the needs of Bonner for access to the current 25 gigabit per second broadband services, throughout the whole of the electorate, reliably and at a reasonable price.
Primary healthcare that supports existing services
I welcome the government’s injection of $15 million into healthcare in the Wynnum-Manly area. However, it is necessary to ensure that the community is thoroughly consulted and all community and industry concerns are addressed so that this is the best spend of taxpayer’s money.
Improvements to local amenity
The demographics of Bonner are changing. It is a way of life that is attractive to young professionals, families, the retired or semi-retired. Bonner’s local amenity needs to reflect the interests and needs of our community and I am working with local communities and businesses to provide greater service in Wynnum, including a cinema. In addition, I am working on road safety and an improved Moreton Island tourism centre.
