FUNDING BOOST FOR LOCAL BONNER VETERANS

Manly-Lota RSL in Bonner today welcomed Government funding that will assist them in continuing their important work providing support to the local veteran community.

The funding was part of the Australian Government’s Building Excellence in Support and Training (BEST) grants programme, which helps ex-service organisations (ESOs) across Australia provide essential advice, advocacy and welfare services for veterans, serving members and their families, war widows and widowers.

“I am pleased to announce that Manly-Lota RSL will receive $14,312 through the BEST programme, helping them provide much-needed support to our veterans and their families,” Federal Member for Bonner, Ross Vasta, said today.

Vice President of Manly-Lota RSL, Doug Jones, said the organisation appreciated the funding and the government’s continued support.

“The modifications to our hall, which have been due for some time, would not have been possible without this grant,” Mr Jones said.

Overall, 126 organisations will share in more than $4 million in Government funding awarded in BEST funding round 17.

Mr Vasta said this round of BEST funding included the $1 million per year that was reinstated by the Government in the 2014-15 Budget.

“The funding will support the work of veterans’ advocates, welfare and pension officers across the country, and provide them with greater certainty into the future,” Mr Vasta said.

“The Government is committed to providing ongoing support for the many veterans, war widows and widowers, current serving Australian Defence Force personnel, and their families living in the region.”
