Congratulations Local Sporting Champions

Carindale local Lily Bassingthwaighte has received $700 to help her attend the National under 12’s Cricket Championships in Adelaide thanks to the Morrison Government’s Local Sporting Champions grants program.

Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta MP said Lily’s dedication and hard work had paid off to land her a coveted spot to compete at a national level.

“It was an honour to recognise talented children like Lily who works hard to passionately pursue the sport she loves,” Mr Vasta said.

“Because of this grant, Lily is now able to join the rest of her team in Adelaide when they play off for the National Championships later this year.

“Our Government is committed to supporting sportsmen and women and I’m encouraged by Lily’s great sporting efforts.”

Lily Bassingthwaighte said being selected to play for the Australian under 12’s Cricket Championships would prepare her for a bright future in the sport.

“Being selected to attend this competition has already taught me that hard work, dedication and sacrifice will often result in reward,” Ms Bassingthwaighte said.

National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence

Bonner Schools, teachers, and students are encouraged to join National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence for the tenth year on March 20 to Take Action Together.

Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta MP said no matter the form, bullying and violence toward other people would never be tolerated.

“We know bullying and cyberbullying is a growing concern for students and families, with one in five young students experiencing online bullying each year,” Mr Vasta said.

“This year’s national theme is Take Action Together to empower our school communities to unite with others and share ideas and actions to address bullying.

“Participation in the National Day of Action also sends a strong message to young people who may have been bullied –  you are not alone and help is available.”

Rochedale State School principal Dr Keith Graham OAM said the school’s zero tolerance policy had fostered a culture of respect and personal responsibility.

“The culture in the school is one of respect and being a positive member of society, therefore the great positive behaviours are encouraged and negative behaviours are not accepted,” Dr Graham said.

“We teach children skills of resilience and problem solving, and not everyone will be your friend every day.”
