New jersey’s for new recruits

Wynnum Manly Juniors Rugby League Club (JRL) have received $20,000 funding for new jerseys for their latest recruits through the Morrison Government’s Stronger Communities grant program.

Federal Member for Bonner Ross Vasta MP said the government was committed to supporting local community organisations to encourage children to lead active and healthy lifestyles.

“Kids should be able to enjoy an active lifestyle without missing out because the cost of a team jersey might stretch the family budget,” Mr Vasta said.

“We want every kid in Australia to have every opportunity to play and enjoy the sport they love.

“These rugby league kids could grow up to be the next Australian representative, and it all starts with the passion and skills they develop at their local club.”

Wynnum Manly JRL president Shane Vaughan said the funding would benefit the sporting community and future of the club.

“This grant is a huge benefit to the club and is reinvested into the kids so they can come together and play the sport they love,” Mr Vaughan said.

“We want to provide facilities that allow kids to lead healthy and active lifestyles instead of being in front of screens.”

Lord Mayor Representative for Wynnum- Manly Ward Megan Piccardi said the delicious food and friendly staff helped build a business Manly could be proud of.

“50 years of running a small business that serves tasty food and has welcoming staff is something to be proud of,” Ms Piccardi said.

“I love going to the Manly Hotel for a dinner with my husband and friends because it’s a great place to relax and connect- I look forward to supporting the Manly Hotel for many more years.”

Manly Hotel Manager Sandy McDonald said the pub had been a good place for strangers to become fast friends over an icy cool drink and swap tall tales of life.

“You are the sum of the people you meet and I’ve had the opportunity to meet broad spectrums of people with wonderful stories of life’s trials, tribulations and celebrations,” Mr McDonald said.

These days with the increasing sense of isolation with people fixated on their devices, it’s important people are able to enjoy the hotel.”
