Brisbane City Council’s Green Heart Fair – Sunday 28 October

Clear your diary on Sunday 28 October because Brisbane City Council’s Green Heart Fair is on again – this time in a new spring venue at Carindale Recreation Reserve.

The Green Heart Fair is Brisbane’s premier sustainability event, promoting innovative green living in a free, fun, family-friendly environment and attracting 10,000-15,000 Brisbane residents each time.  Over 40 of our leading sustainability organisations will be sharing information and knowledge with everyday Australians onhow to live more sustainably and offering vital tips to reduce rising cost of living pressures.  Visitors will also be treated to heaps of fun with plenty of activities and entertainment throughout the day – all for FREE.

There’s something for all ages and tastes at the Green Heart Fair.  An all-day line-up on the Main Stage includes music from local bands The Wilson Pickers and Cheap Fakes

Head to the Grow-Eat-Live stage for demonstrations from the likes of popular chef Tobie Puttock, Gardening Australia’s Jerry Coleby-Williams and local garden-to-kitchen experts.

Brisbane City Council will be running activities in its marquee all day so make sure you stop in and talk to Council’s experts who can give you green living and gardening tips, green waste and recycling advice, CityCycle, information on bike paths, transport, waterways health, weeds identification and the Native Animal Ambulance.

Your bike not pedalling as it should?  Bring it in to Goldcross in the Community Corner and they’ll teach you how to fix it.  Goldcross will also be running some of the many sustainable living workshops that will be taking place in various areas of the Fair site – learn about everything from composting and worm farming to creative recycling. There will be 3000 free native plants given away, games for all ages and competitions for great prizes like a luxury two-night getaway at O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat.

Locally sourced produce will be the flavour of the day, with farm fresh produce available in the all-day Market Space and local foodies offering their sweet and savoury fare to keep you going throughout the Fair.

Bring the kids because they will be kept busy with all day environmental activities in the Kids Hub including planting a vegetable patch, native wildlife and oceanic shows, face-painting and the rock climbing wall.  ABC’s eco-warrior dirtgirlworld will be entertaining the kids on the Main Stage and then inspiring them to get their hands dirty with her in the educational activity centre where they can plant their very own herbs to take home.  Active kids can play all day and can do any of the sports skills clinics on offer with the Queensland Reds’ Rookies2Reds program, Little Kickers in the Rapid Fire Field and Roary from the Brisbane Roar at the Fair.  There’s even more fun for children and adults in wheelchairs with the Liberty Swing.

Why not start your day by getting to the Fair sustainably and safely on the Green Heart Family Fun Ride

There’s so much to do in one day! Plan your day at the Green Heart Fair to make sure you don’t miss out on the activities that interest you the most but be prepared to see and do new and exciting things to help you and your family live more sustainably.

The Fair is an initiative of Brisbane City Council to help residents make changes to our everyday lives, live a more sustainable lifestyle and help reduce the cost of living – helping Brisbane achieve its goal of becoming Australia’s most sustainable city.
