The electorate of Bonner is so diverse and has a lot to offer, from walking and hiking trails, lookouts, cycle tracks, parks, cafes and even islands.

To celebrate the beautiful region we live in, and highlight some of Bonner’s hidden gems, I’ve launched the This Is Bonner campaign and I encourage everyone to get involved!

Stretch your legs on a stroll or two on some of Bonner’s best boardwalks.

Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk

Lace up your trainers and wander through the Wynnum Mangrove.

The Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk links to a birdhide overlooking tidal saltmarshes and the surround parklands include mangroves, mudflats, tidal creeks, melaleuca wetlands and wallum and open eucalypt forest.

There’s even an off-leash dog park nearby.

Lota Creek Boardwalk-North
This wide boardwalk winds and weaves out of sight of the Whites Road and through the flora and fauna of Lota. Lota Creek Boardwalk links to bushwalking tracks in the reserves on the southern side of the creek.
Maisie Dixon Park

Maisie Dixon Park features a freshly paved boardwalk in Eight Mile Plains. Shared with bikes and lined by trees, this new park and boardwalk trail has plenty to offer.

You don’t have to go out of town to challenge your endurance levels with some beautiful hiking trails in Bonner. From easy to extreme, these hikes will get your blood pumping.

Mt Gravatt Summit and Federation Track

This winding trail takes hikers from the base to the summit of Mount Gravatt with multiple exit points along the way.

The popular trail is narrow in some parts and there’s plenty of opportunity to take in the beautiful sights and sounds of the mountain.

Belmont Hills Reserve

This trail is easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.

Located just off Scrub Road, this hiking trail is nestled within nature corridors.

The wild flora are steep hill circuit will take your breath away but don’t forget to look up because it’s also a Koala hotspot.

Koala Parkland Trail Stockyard Creek Circuit, Burbank

Explore the wilderness of Burbank amongst curious wallabies and sleepy Koalas.

The quiet 7 kilometre trail will work up a sweat but the rural landscape encased by tall trees will make it worthwhile.

From climbing nets to giant slides and workout equipment, there’s something for kids and adults to enjoy at these Bonner parks.

Carindale Recreation Reserve

Built on a wide acreage reserve, there’s enough space for kids to run or burn energy climbing the rope mountain in the sheltered playground.

The recreational reserve also features a makeshift rocket ship where imagination can come to life.

This space is popular with parents, pets and the odd personal training session.

Wynnum Whale Park and Wading Pool

This playground and water park will save any parent’s sanity on a hot summer afternoon with its whale park and wading pool.

Facilities include a playground, accessible toilets, shelter, nearby cafes, bike racks, parking and bike paths. The Wynnum Whale Park and Playground has all the options and the inclusion of an unfenced playground, water park and wading pool means that there is something for every age group and every possibility for fun.

The wading pool fills with sea water at high tide, making it a safer environment for Brisbane Kids to explore than the ocean itself. Pick up some nearby fish and chips and settle in for a day of fun in the sun.

Holmead Park

The popular park comes to life with kids and parents after school.

Holmead Park has everything you need in a park for the whole family, pups included with an off-leash dog park, playground and picnic spots.

Minnippi Park

When you need to workout and keep the kids active as well, it’s hard to beat Minnippi Park playground.

The park is designed for adults and children with a work out station to one side and a sheltered playground on the other.

Abbeville Street Park

This open space park has room for every interest.

Run laps with the dog or let it run a-muck in the off-leash area, or get a quick workout in with the outdoor gym and half basketball court.

There’s a designated barbecue area for picnics and the kids can enjoy the undercover playground with a mini climbing wall and a four-way see-saw.

Ride along on some of the best bike paths in Brisbane. Whether it’s through the suburbs or wanting to learn a couple of BMX moves, explore these unique cycling paths in Bonner.

Wynnum to Manly Shoreline

With the beautiful Moreton Bay as your outlook, this scenic shared bike path will leave you wanting more.

With rest spots along the way to take in the views and plenty of nearby cafes to grab a coffee or picnic lunch, this cycling path is one of Bonner’s most popular and most loved destinations.

Murarrie Recreation Reserve

Located on the Bulimba Creek Bikeway, Murarrie Reserve has its own 1.4 kilometre loop track with a great smooth surface. The track is 6 metres wide so there is plenty of space for lots of cyclists.

Whether you like cycling or have kids who are learning and need a great car-free place for a ride, this is a great space.

There is also a small playground, shady picnic tables, a basketball half court and a skate park to make a day of it.

Carindale to Minnipi Park

This bike path is perfect for children and adults alike.

The Carindale to Minnipi cycling path is sheltered by beautiful trees and surrounded by protected wildlife. This popular bike route won’t disappoint.

Take it all in with some of the most breath-taking views Queensland has to offer.

Mount Gravatt Lookout

Mount Gravatt Lookout is undisputedly one of the best seats in Brisbane.

Taking a winding path to the summit (walk or drive), the lookout provides visitors with 360 degree views of Brisbane City and surrounding suburbs.

Take it all in with covered seating areas and nearby cafe. This lookout is a must do in Bonner.

Hemmant Quarry Reserves

Hidden in the midst of ancient Indigenous hunting grounds is this lakeside paradise.

Enclosed by natural habitat, Hemmant Quarry Reserve is the perfect spot to unwuind from the hustle and bustle and watch nature come to life.

Home to turtles, ducks and koalas, this protected reserve is a must-see.

Mount Tempest

You’ll need to head across the water to Moreton island for this spectacular view.

Mount Tempest is thought to be the highest coastal sand dune in the world, approximately 285 metres above sea level.

A favourite amongst fitness fanatics, it is fast becoming a regular bucket list item for hiking thanks to the challenging walk to the top and spectacular 360 degree views.

On a clear day you can see the coastline from the Sunshine Coast to Brisbane and then right through to the Gold Coast making it a magnificent reward for those who reach the top.

The walk up to Mount Tempest contains steps with seats provided along the way and at the lookout.

This walk is best done in the cooler part of the day or in winter and takes approximately two hours to complete the 2.5 kilometre return trip – so make sure you take plenty of water.

Cape Moreton Lighthouse

After you’ve taken on Mount Tempest, make your way to the Moreton Island Lighthouse.

This lighthouse was the first lighthouse built in Queensland.

The 23 metre high lighthouse was lit for the first time in 1857, built by tradesmen and convicts.

The tower is built on a rare rocky promontory on a sand island and is constructed of rough faced sandstone quarried on Moreton Island.

The lighthouse is on the northern point of Moreton Island near North Point. The Rocky outcrop which the lighthouse sits upon is also a great viewing point for whales migrating and spotting marine life. Dolphins, whales (in season), manta rays, dugongs and turtles can be viewed from this area in the water below.

From dining, history and hidden fishing holes, there’s something for everyone in Bonner.

Tingalpa Creek Reserve for fishing and kayaking

Located at the end of a cul-de-sac and down a beaten track is the perfect fishing spot.

A quiet space visited by few, Tingalpa Creek Reserve is the perfect place to go without being too far from home.

Don’t forget to pack a kayak for a paddle.

Manly Harbour Village

This charming seaside precinct is just 30 minutes from Brisbane’s CBD, boasting a lively atmosphere of entertainment, dining, boutique shopping and farmers market/craft market experiences.

The Wynnum Manly Tourism and Visitor Information Centre, situated on the stunning William Gunn Jetty is in close proximity of the vibrant Manly Harbour Village and the team of friendly Ambassadors can provide information on what to do locally, book accommodation and Island tours, and provide details of upcoming events

The Lovewell Project

Located in the summit of Mount Gravatt, the Lovewell Project is a favourite with locals.

This cafe serves more than just a dining experience.

You can also stock up on your pantry staples, homemade goods and support a charity on market days.

It also offers a great coffee and 360 degree view of Brisbane.

Tangalooma Wrecks

Fifteen vessels were deliberately sunk off Moreton Island to form a breakwall for small boats and a wreck dive and snorkel site.

Snorkelling and scuba diving at this site is an amazing experience.

The crystal clear waters provide fantastic visibility to view an abundance of marine life and coral formations such as wobbegongs, trevally, kingfish, yellowtail and an array of tropical fish.

The Wrecks offer every diving environment in one dive, including reef, wreck, drift and naturalist, in an average of about 12 metres of clear water.

You can swim straight from the beach out to the wrecks.

Fort Lytton

Queensland’s largest history museum is right here on the Bayside.

Wander the museum and discover the role Fort Lytton played from colonial times right up to the end of WWII.

With tours and military reenactments, visitors will be sure to enjoy a fun day out with the family.

Fort Lytton Rochedale dining scene

Dine out in Rochedale from urban Thai flavours to the rich aroma of sizzling bacon at Cache Cache.

Restaurants and cafes are beginning to pop up as Rochedale continues its expansion.
