A new Health Funding Facts website has been launched to help Bonner families and communities see how they are benefiting from the Morrison Government’s strong track record on guaranteeing essential health services for all Australians.
www.health.gov.au/health-funding-facts is a one-stop-shop enabling Bonner families to access data on how the Morrison Government is investing in:
- Record health and hospital funding
- Historic high bulk billing rates
- A record number of life-saving medicines subsidised through the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
Member for Bonner, Ross Vasta said the new online estimator showed Metro South hospital funding growing $3.87 million dollars from 2012-13 to 2024-25 because of the Morrison Government’s $30 billion public hospital agreement signed with the states and territories.
In addition, the Government’s investment in Medicare is guaranteed, increasing by $4.8 billion nationwide, to $28.8 billion in 2021-22.
Locally in Bonner, funding for Medicare has increased from $3.69 million in 2012-13 to 4.77 million in 2017-18.
Since the last election, the Government has passed a Medicare Guarantee through the Parliament which write our Medicare and the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme guarantees into legislation, so more Bonner families can have these essential services when they need them most.
In Bonner there have been an extra 179,818 GP visits that were bulk billed since 2013 and the GP bulk billing rate now stands at 79% per cent.
Families will also be able to find details on the how much the Government is investing in the PBS locally in Bonner and how many people in their region currently access the PBS.
These are lifesaving and life-changing medicines for Bonner families like Spinraza for patients with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Orkambi that fights cystic fibrosis, Kisqali to treat breast cancer and many others.
And since 2013, the Coalition Government has added more than 2,000 new or amended items on the PBS.
On average, around 30 new PBS listings are occurring across Australia every month—or one each day— from an overall Government investment of around $10.6 billion.
We can only guarantee these essential health services – stronger health and hospitals funding, historic high bulk billing rates and a record number of PBS listings – through a stronger economy. The Morrison Government’s plan for a stronger economy with more jobs and economic growth means better, more reliable health services for Bonner families, Member for Bonner Ross Vasta said.
